Men You Could Learn From - James Bond
I'm starting a new segment on Cool on Purpose called 'Men You Could Learn From'. It's no less than obvious that I begin with the one man every man wants to be; James Bond.
You can be gentlemanly and rakish while still maintaining an edge.
Dressing like you don't care and cursing unnecessarily will only pigeonhole you as ignorant, not a tough guy. Mr. Bond can kill everyone in a room without blinking, yet never feels the need to portray himself in that manner. If you dress sharply, speak well and act like you have some sense, everything you do will be taken more seriously. Do strangers ever call you sir? If not, you may need to reevaluate. After all, who has more effect swearing, a man who rarely curses or a man who curses all the time?
Do things your way.
There's a reason people go to you for something. They like the way you handle it. If they didn't, they wouldn't come to you. Why do you think M keeps sending Bond on missions? Because he gets it done. This doesn't mean you shouldn't take other people's advice. Advice should always be welcome. Just make sure you take it with a grain of salt.
Work hard, play harder.
The reason we all like Bond is because he gets the job done, with style. However, the reason we want to be like Bond is because he plays with style. Even on a mission to save the world with people trying to kill him around every turn, James will make time to get laid. He drives the nicest cars. He has the coolest gadgets. If you work enough to earn the things you want, you deserve to use them. Take a pause from work every now and then and have as much fun as humanly possible. It'll keep you sane.
